And so it begins.
It’s that time of the year again, my friends. When artists from across the internet come together to challenge themselves for 31 days. Yes, that’s right – it’s Inktober!
To any who don’t know, Inktober is a month long challenge started by Jake Parker, which takes place every October. The aim is to create a drawing in ink every day of the month, as a push to hone your skills and create good artistic habits. As someone who has completed the whole month before, I can tell you it’s difficult but very rewarding.
To help us poor struggling artists out, a prompt list is released each year, giving you a little push to help with ideas every day.
This is the official prompt list, but each year a few artists release their own, just in case this doesn’t tickle your fancy. (I would link to a few but I actually haven’t looked this year. *hides in shame*) If you want more info, you can check out the official website for more info, FAQs and some recommended tools.
This Inktober, I’ve gone with a theme close to my little bookish heart.
I’m doing 31 days of book-themed inky artworks! Character illustrations are my personal strong point, so I’m hoping to get a lot of my favourite characters in this month! If there’s anyone you’d like to see don’t hesitate to ask – I’ll be needing some ideas to keep me going for a whole month!
Since it’s the first day, I’ve got the first drawing to share with you! The prompt for the 1st was “ring”, and I couldn’t for the life of me think of anything. Then my S/O, who I’m lending the Mistborn trilogy to, pointed out that Vin wears her mother’s earring. Now, Vin is a pretty awesome character, and I certainly didn’t have any better ideas, so I’ve kicked off the month with a drawing of my second favourite Mistborn (I love you Kelsier!).
What do you think? I’m a little rusty with a brush pen, but that’s kind of the reason I’m doing this for a month! I’m planning to post updates weekly, so I can talk about how things are going, share my process, favourite art supplies, and of course, my drawings! If you want a sneak preview, I can tell you I’m planning Cardan and Mia Corvere in the next week!
I’m looking forward to this wonderful month, that celebrates and fosters artistic talent from all around the world. I hope you are too! Don’t forget, if there’s any characters you think I should draw, let me know in the comments!
