WWW Wednesday | Checking In On My Reading

WWW Wednesday

Hello my friends! πŸ‹ How are you doing? I’m struggling to find the time to blog lately, but I saw a few other WWW Wednesday posts and thought it would be fun to just check in. (I know it’s Thursday, don’t @ me) πŸ™ˆ

WWW Wednesday is a weekly blog meme is hosted by Sam at Taking on a World of Words that asks you the three Ws: what are you currently reading, what did you just finish, and what do you think you’ll read next?

Currently Reading

I’m still reading Feed from Halloween (I told you I was busy!). I’ve only got about 100 pages left and the story really has me gripped now. It’s a smarter version of your average zombie story, and I can appreciate that it has more plot than just roaming the wilderness dodging the undead. There’s political schemes, high stakes, and best of all, blogging!

I’m also listening to Strange the Dreamer on audio. I’m about 30% through it so far and I am enjoying it, but I’m glad I went with the audiobook. I’m not sure if I would make it through the heavy prose on paper. It has some really beautiful quotes and I can definitely appreciate that, but I prefer straightforward writing – super descriptive writing feels like wading through syrup to me.

Finished Reading

With the Fire on High by Elizabeth Acevedo book cover

The last book I finished was With the Fire on High, a story with soul and stomach. Aspiring chef Emoni grapples with life, love and family as she balances her dreams with school and looking after her daughter. I loved the unflinching honestly of this story, and rated it 4 stars.

Reading Next

Aurora Rising by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff Illumicrate book cover

The Illumiae Files books were my favourite reads of 2018 so I can’t believe I’ve let myself go this long without reading their successor, Aurora Rising. I’m finally in the mood for a sci-fi with a snarky sense of humour, so I’m glad I’ve got this gem waiting for me.

I’ve not done one of these posts before, but it was fun to do a little check in! I don’t think I could do this weekly, with the rate I’m reading at lately, but I’ll definitely be writing a few more WWW Wednesdays in future. Hopefully actually on a Wednesday next time!

Love and lemons, Abi

  1. Ooh I’m glad you’re enjoying Strange the Dreamer! I can definitely understand having difficulty with the dense prose, though – sounds like the audiobook is a great way to go 😊 And I’ve heard so many good things about With the Fire on High, so that’s wonderful that you liked it so much!
