My Nominations for the 2020 Book Blogger Awards | Let’s Celebrate This Wonderful Community

Hello bookies! I’m doing a super special post today – it’s my nominations for the 2020 Book Blogger Awards! This is the fourth year of the awards, but my first time participating, so I’m super excited. This is such a wonderful, positive event in the community, and it’s all thanks to May @ Forever and Everly and Marie @ Drizzle and Hurricane Books, who are hosting this year. The awards were originally created by Joce @ Write Through the Night. If you haven’t done your own nominations yet you can find all the rules on May or Marie’s posts I’ve linked to above. You’d better be quick though – the deadline is fast approaching on the 26th June.

One of the rules this year is that half of your nominations have to be small bloggers (under 500 followers). As a small blogger myself I know how important promotion can be. So, all the small blogs I’ve featured are marked with a lemon πŸ‹ (of course). As has become tradition I’m going to drop in a dog photo (the quality content you all deserve) and get on with the post!

Look at this happy boy!! He loves you all πŸ’š

Best of Their Age

πŸ‹ Best Adult Book Blogger (20+)

Margaret @ Weird Zeal is one of the first bloggers I became true friends with, and I still love reading and commenting on all of her posts. She recommends such a wide range of books from all different genres and age groups – I’m always guaranteed to find something new to read! Plus, if you’re a fan of musicals Margaret is definitely someone you need to be following, from her original Dear Evan Hansen book tag to her recent post of books that would make great musicals (linked above).

Best Genre Bloggers

πŸ‹ Young Adult

πŸ‹ Enne @ Our Worlds of Words has a blog absolutely jam-packed with incredible and diverse YA books. Every time I read one of their posts I find something new and brilliant to add to my TBR. They always seem to include a good mix of popular titles and ones I haven’t come across before, so their blog is a great place to go to find your next YA read.

πŸ‹ Middle Grade or Younger

Sophie @ Sophie’s Corner doesn’t just blog about Middle Grade books (I actually discovered her from a wonderful discussion post) but she’s recently gotten a lot more into them as she works on revisions for her own MG novel. It’s been lovely seeing all her new discoveries and recommendations, as well as getting to read about her writing journey. Not to mention she’s just the absolute sweetest person, who always has a kind word for everyone.

πŸ‹ Romance

πŸ‹ Veronika @ Wordy and Whimsical – I would by no means describe myself as a romance reader (not adult romance, anyway), yet Veronika’s posts always manage to convince me to add something to my TBR that I never would’ve considered otherwise! She by no means only posts about romance books, but anyone looking for their next romantic read is sure to find something from her posts about different types of pairings.

πŸ‹ Science Fiction / Fantasy

πŸ‹ Mary @ Mary and the Words – If you mentioned Mary to me, my first thoughts would be Tolkein (more accurately, The Simarillion), Shiver and The Martian. She’s written some great discussions, like this one about Sci-Fi vs Science Fiction which I still think about all the time. I’m always finding new science fiction and fantasy books from her blog, or even being convinced to read ones I’ve overlooked before.

Best of Book Blogging

πŸ‹ Best Book Reviews

πŸ‹ Veronika @ Wordy and Whimsical may have wondered whether she’s a bad reviewer, but I’d have to disagree! I love the way she writes collective review posts, like this one ranking every Emma Mills book. I find it so helpful to read about a whole series or author’s body of work in one place, so these posts are just perfect! I happen to know that there’s one about all of Alice Oseman’s books in the works, so you’re in for a treat!

πŸ‹Best Blog Aesthetic

Xandra @ Starry Sky Books has an aesthetic that fits perfectly with the name of her blog. Her theme is so cohesive and I can always tell when I’ve stumbled across one of her posts in the Reader just from a glance at her featured image. Most blogs have a light-coloured theme, so it’s really refreshing to visit Xandra’s blog and be immersed in a dark starry sky.

πŸ‹ Best Blogging/Writing Voice

πŸ‹ Ashley @ The Infinite Library writes with such a vivid personality. Her snarky jokes always get me laughing, and reading her posts is so addictive. She writes in a way that makes it feel like you’re having a conversation, which is something I really love and admire.

πŸ‹ Most Helpful

Novels & Waffles

Kat @ Novels and Waffles is my ultimate inspiration in blog design. I discovered her at the very start of my blogging journey when she commented on my first ever post. As soon as I clicked through to her website I realised I had so much more to learn about designing an attractive blog. Luckily, she shares lots of guides and tips so anyone can learn from her! She’s written about topics like how to make your blog SEO friendly, how to pick an Instagram theme, and so many more!

πŸ‹ Most Supportive

Olivia @ Purely Olivia is so lovely, and always has a kind word for everyone. She’s the absolute sweetest when it comes to answering comments, and she always makes sure to share her favourite posts in her monthly wrap ups. She writes her posts with such a friendly tone, and visiting her blog always leaves me feeling warm and fuzzy inside.

πŸ‹ Most Creative

πŸ‹ Sabrina @ Wordy and Whimsical is constantly writing the most amazing and unique posts, like sharing post ideas she’s scrapped, or the time she did book maths. Honstely, aside from book tags and wrap-ups virtually every post she publishes is something I’ve never read before!

πŸ‹ Best Personality

πŸ‹ El @ Elated Books I swear El’s posts always have me laughing. They have absolutely no problem with calling a book out as totally trashy, or threatening to force-feed you a favourite (yes, I will read Sourdough eventually!). The combination of sarcasm and brutal honesty make for some really hilarious commentary on books, and posts that I have so much fun reading.

πŸ‹ Friendliest Member of the Community

Me and Ink

Sophie @ Me and Ink is definitely one of the loveliest people I’ve met since joining the blogging community. She always takes the time to leave the most kind and in-depth comments, responding to every part of a post. Her enthusiasm is infectious and having comment-section-conversations with her always makes me smile.

πŸ‹Best at Promoting Diverse Books

Margaret @ Weird Zeal is always dedicating her time to specifically recommending books featuring diverse characters and books written by diverse authors. She’s got posts about LGBTQ+ books, queer books by Black authors, and she even created and ran her own readathon for Women’s History Month. I really appreciate all the effort she puts into promoting diverse books, and she constantly inspires me to do better as a reader and blogger.

In case you noticed, YES I was a total cop-out and didn’t nominate anyone for the Best Overall Book Blogger because YOU’RE ALL TOO AMAZING AND I CAN’T CHOOSE!! I had so much fun putting this post together – it’s really nice to just spend some time appreciating everyone in this community. Also, I have been utterly terrible at blog hopping lately (I’m so sorry!) so this was a nice opportunity to catch up on what you’ve all been writing. As I mentioned at the start, this is my first time participating in the awards and it’s been such a great experience so far. I can’t wait to see the results!

Love and lemons, Abi

  1. Ahh, thank you so much for nominating both of us!! I’m so happy you consider me someone who blogs about a lot of romance – I love romance, and I’m glad my posts about the genre are convincing. πŸ˜€ I know and love many of these bloggers, and I’m now going to head to the others’ blogs and check them out. πŸ˜€

I love your romance posts! I don’t follow many people who talk about that genre so it’s always so refreshing to read about something different. I swear I’ll read something by Talia Hibbert soon! 😁

Yay, I hope you find some great new people 😊

  7. Hallo, Hallo Abi,

This is the first time I’ve visited your lovely blog and I love the aesthetic of it!! Esp as I love using lemons in both cooking and baking – they make the best sauces and add a bit of sour loveliness to bakes!!! I’ve added your post to my mini-blogroll wherein I am sharing everyone’s noms lists underneath my own – as a way to celebrate the awards themselves and everyone who is participating this year. This is my first time joining in on the fun and I must say it has already been a wonderful experience… I didn’t recognise too many of the bloggers on your list, which means I have some visiting to do!!

See if we share any mutuals by visiting my noms list.

    1. Hi Jorie!

Thank you so much for your lovely comment! Lemons are so great, aren’t they? The theme was originally inspired by my attempt at growing a lemon tree! It’s still alive, but it’s 3 years old and only a few inches tall, so I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong πŸ˜… Aww, thank you! That sounds like such a great idea and a way to promote the awards and help even more people discover new bloggers! I’m glad you had fun participating! 😁

I’m honestly just one big puddle of happy emotions right now, so thank you! (Excuse me while I say β€˜thank you’ an embarrassing amount of times.)But yes, anyways, this made my week so much brighter and I’m so glad that I was able to comment on your first blog post πŸ™‚
